Anteo Group Proud Sponsor of the Techie 10k

Atlanta, GA (July 27, 2011)-Anteo Group is proud to add the Techie 10k, to its association of nonprofit events aiming to make a difference in the Atlanta area. Anteo is a “bronze level” sponsor for the race taking place, Saturday, October 1st 2011. When the starting gun goes off at 8am sharp, six members of team Anteo will race the 6.2 miles supporting the ‘Techie 10k’.

The ‘Techie 10K’ is a TAG Sponsored event and all proceeds benefit the TAG Education Collaborative – a non-profit organization focused on strengthening Georgia’s future workforce by uniting Technology Association of Georgia (TAG) resources with leading education initiatives while emphasizing science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Georgia, with its growing technology community, need to enhance, upgrade and develop new activities, process and programs to, not only raise the quality of schools in general, but equally important, elevate the effectiveness of schools to produce more students pursuing STEM specific majors in institutions of higher education and ultimately STEM related careers.

Business Development Manager at Anteo Group and avid runner, Kelley Hafer explains Anteo’s enthusiasm for this event, “”At Anteo Group, we are constantly looking for new ways to support organizations focused on improving our IT community. With the rapid growth we have seen in the industry, the opportunity to support an organization that focuses on empowering and educating our future workforce was a no-brainer. We are very proud of what the TAG Education Collaborative stands for and are excited to partner with them for the event.”

About STEM
A few points of concern that STEM hopes to address:

  1. In Georgia, the number of high school non-graduates in 2007 was 28,842. The lost lifetime earnings for this class of drop-outs are estimated to be more than $15 billion.
  2. In 2007, only 60% of Georgia’s Hispanic students and 63% of economically disadvantaged students graduated from high school.
  3. In 2008, over 4,000 new teachers were certified in Georgia, only 8 of these were chemistry teachers and 3 were physics teachers.
  4. Georgia’s science and technology talent is rapidly approaching retirement and our schools are not producing the required level of STEM talent to replace them.
